A few weeks ago, the President of Ukraine approved and signed a law on book certification and bookstore subsidies. This initiative aims to stimulate Ukrainian book publishing and promote the spread of native literature. According to Bill No. 11251, the state plans to finance the Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI), the book printing sector, and the process of Ukrainianizing the book market. Specifically, 376 million hryvnias will be allocated to create certificates for book purchases. The UBI will begin certification once the Cabinet of Ministers adopts the resolution.

Here are the benefits:

• Starting July 1, 2024, citizens over 18 can receive certificates worth approximately 903 hryvnias for purchasing books. These certificates can be obtained through the "Diia" app, and books can be purchased in paper, electronic, or audio formats and in adaptations for people with visual impairment.
• Parents of newborns can also receive this book compensation starting from January 1 after the end of martial law.

As noted by UBI Director Oleksandra Koval, this initiative aims to increase the volume of books published by domestic authors by 1.5 to 2 million copies. This is crucial for Ukraine's cultural heritage and the role of Ukrainian literature in the lives of youth.

Additionally, this will help bookstores cover rental costs and avoid financial risks. These actions will also strengthen the book sales sector in Ukraine.
