As the country faces another round of widespread power outages, many people notice more than just the loss of electricity and hot water. Internet access and mobile connectivity often disappear, too. The Charity Fund "Direct Inclusion" explains why it happens and how you can stay connected.

Under normal circumstances, about 80% of users rely on Wi-Fi for internet access, while only 20% use mobile networks. However, during outages, this ratio flips. Wi-Fi routers go offline without power, and the demand on cellular base stations skyrockets — sometimes tenfold — causing network congestion.

• Certain telecom companies provide services that keep Wi-Fi operational during power outages. For example, XPON technology can deliver wireless internet for 72 hours. The Ministry of Digital Transformation has prepared a map of internet providers to help you find suitable options.
• During outages, you can also use the national roaming service. This free feature lets you connect to the operator with the best available speed in your area.
• To optimize your internet connection, turn off automatic multimedia downloads in messaging apps. You can also download essential videos or photos in advance while connected to Wi-Fi.
• Check for nearby Points of Invincibility, where you can charge your devices and access the internet. The map is available in the Diia app.
