Volodymyr Rudyak led the Sukhodolska correctional colony in the Luhansk Region since 2007. When Russian forces occupied the region, Rudyak was among the first to collaborate with the invaders voluntarily. His loyalty to the aggressors earned him an appointment as the head of the already occupied prison, which later became a place of torture for Ukrainian prisoners of war. Civilians from nearby towns who resisted the invaders also suffered at his hands.

Evidence shows that the prisoners were brutally beaten with clubs on their arms, legs, back, and torso until they lost consciousness. Rudyak also ordered mass fake executions, using the threat of gunfire near the victims' heads and bodies to intimidate them. Prisoners were forced to crawl on their knees through the colony, enduring severe hunger. At least one person died from the lack of medical assistance. These actions aimed to coerce victims into cooperating with the Russian terrorists.

Criminals Must Pay for Their Atrocities

There is no doubt that Volodymyr Rudyak will pay dearly for his heinous acts. The Charity Fund «Direct Inclusion» will support the investigations and assist in transferring these cases to international courts, including the Hague. The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has charged Rudyak under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for «cruel treatment of prisoners of war or civilians».
