How do you get rid of guilt during a war?
13.01.2023
Today, the protracted war affects Ukrainians not only physically, but also psychologically. Many people learned about panic attacks for the first time, there are also those who had to experience a depressive state, but the most widespread problem, according to psychologists, is the feeling of guilt. Where it comes from and how to get rid of it, we will tell you further.
Why might we feel guilty?
In fact, there may be many reasons, in particular: reproaching oneself for being in safer terrain, for insufficient material aid to the army, or for not being able to take part in the liberation of the territories of the homeland physically. All these thoughts eventually turn into obsessive accusations and do not give any chance to show their real capabilities.
There is quite a logical question: what to do with this?
How to forget about reproaches?
Psychologists assure: striving for a safe environment is the natural desire of any living organism and humans are no exception. If not only guilt, but also the feeling of ineffectiveness in the common struggle for freedom occupy all your thoughts, use the following tips:
- Make sure that the people who depend on you are as safe as possible (children, elderly people, people with disabilities, pregnant women) and that all their basic needs are fully met: food, medicine, sleep and hygiene.
- Get involved in the volunteer activities available to you. If you have funds, send them to the charity's fund account. The amount does not matter in this case; the main thing is to do it regularly. If you have time, come to weave camouflage nets in specialized centers, donate blood and make trench candles. Help the displaced people living near you and the elderly. Get involved in the work processes and you will realize how useful even the slightest manifestation of help can be.
Psychological problems are just as important as physical ones. Do not ignore such manifestations of your psyche and, if necessary, be sure to seek help from specialists. The war will surely end, but mental illnesses can bother you all your life if they are not solved in time.
