How to help a person who received a concussion from the blast wave?
21.12.2022
The enemy is launching new missile strikes every day in different parts of Ukraine. Our air defense systems work non-stop and destroy the vast majority of flying objects, but some of them still hit the target. Those caught in the radius of the blast wave may suffer serious physical injuries. Sometimes it also happens that there are no obvious injuries on the outside of the person, but this does not mean that everything is fine. It is quite likely that the person has a concussion. What it is and how to provide first aid to an injured person - we will tell you further.
The main manifestations of concussion
Concussion is not a disease, but a human condition that in many cases passes quickly enough and is not fatal. But the most important thing is to start eliminating it in time, so that in the future you will not experience painful consequences and mental disorders.
The cause of concussion is most often the explosion of ammunition next to a person. The main symptoms are as follows:
- Disorientation;
- Dizziness;
- Severe headache;
- Amnesia or short-term memory loss;
- Hearing/vision problems;
- Nausea;
- Loss of consciousness.
If you notice any of the above after an explosion, call an ambulance immediately (103).
Pre-medical help
While waiting for the arrival of the paramedics, it is possible to alleviate the condition of the victim:
- Unbutton the person's outer clothing and loosen the belt for free breathing;
- If there is a risk of foreign objects getting into the affected person's mouth, try to carefully remove them from there;
- Monitor the person's breathing and be ready for artificial respiration of the lungs until paramedics arrive. You should not do indirect heart massage, because there is a possibility of rupture of internal organs. It’s better not to give the victim to drink for the same reason.
- The affected person may feel nauseous so watch his body position to prevent aspiration of vomitus. It is best to put the person on the side;
- If it is possible to cover the victim with something warm – do it.
If you feel that you get concussed, don't assume that the symptoms will go away on their own. It is better to undergo a medical examination for the presence of internal ruptures, as well as mental disorders. Doctors say that a contusion can remind of itself for years, if its consequences are not eliminated in time. Take care of yourself and react to air raid alerts!
