All items of clothing used by the military are significantly different from their everyday counterparts. It is a mistake to think that ordinary gloves, even work gloves, will be as strong and effective as military ones. This applies to all other items of equipment, including shoes. In this article we will talk about how to choose quality boots/tactical sneakers for a person who is going to defend Ukraine on the front line.

Types of "military" shoes

Most people think of "military shoes" as high leather boots. In fact, there are quite a few types of tactical shoes. The military can choose it among a variety of models, each designed for use in certain weather conditions. Their main types are as follows:

  • High uniform boots. They are most often made of genuine leather and have tight lacing with thick sole. Such boots are stiff and uncomfortable for long-term wear. They can rub the legs and cause great pain to the wearer.
  • Summer boots. This type of footwear is very similar to military boots, but made of more "breathable" materials that are much easier to wear.
  • Tactical boots (may differ for different units). They have “soft” but firm sole and easy-to-wear materials. They are distinguished by the presence of additional elements (fittings).
  • Tactical sneakers. Designed for use in spring, summer and autumn. Their advantages are comfort during wearing. But such shoes protect a smaller leg plane compared to boots.
  • Tactical keds. Most often used by the Navy. They have a minimum level of protection and are distinguished by their lightness.

What should you pay attention to?

In order to choose comfortable and long-wearing shoes for the military, you need to pay attention to the following parameters:

  • Material. Tactical shoes should be made with a combination of natural materials (leather, nubuck, suede) with synthetic materials (cordura, polyester, spandex and others). This will provide protection against moisture and allow free movement and "breathing".
  • Insole. It is this part of military footwear that provides cushioning and comfort when walking. Today, tactical boots and sneakers often have anatomical footbeds which repeat the bending of the feet. This is a great solution for those who are constantly on the move.
  • Sole. It is important that it is sturdy and tenacious. It is also good if the sole is bendable. In conditions of running on sand or the need to move on rocky terrain, these little things will play a remarkable role.
  • Fittings. Tactical shoes should have sturdy laces and well attached Velcro to effectively fix the position of the leg.
  • Seasonality. Take into account that summer shoes for the military should be lightweight and water-repellent, and winter shoes should be well insulated.

When choosing tactical boots or sneakers, be sure to check them for comfort. The footwear should fit tightly to your leg and not cause discomfort. It is better to try it on with socks to understand exactly whether it will be comfortable to move around.

Remember that in the field you will not be able to take off your shoes after you feel tired, so you need to choose your shoes especially carefully.
