Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced the mandatory evacuation of the population from the territory of the Donetsk region to regions farther from the front lines. There are two main reasons for this at once: the danger of getting into enemy shelling and the impossibility of starting the heating season in the entire region. Today we will tell you about where Donetsk residents will be evacuated, how to prepare for resettlement and where to look for help in providing the most necessary things.

What is known about the decision to evacuate the population?

On August 2, the government portal published an order on the mandatory evacuation of residents of Donetsk region to regions of Ukraine that are more distant from the zone of active hostilities due to the inability to heat their homes.

According to Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, there are still more than 200 thousand people in the region, 52 thousand of whom are minors. The gas pipelines damaged in early spring have been repaired, but the enemy does not stop in striking new blows on the power supply transmission lines. All this, says Vereshchuk, makes it impossible to provide the population with optimal conditions for living in winter.

How to interpret the "mandatory" evacuation?

The new Headquarters for the Evacuation of Donbas residents noted that the constitutional rights of citizens will not be violated in any way. Consequently, no one will be forced to leave their homes. But at the same time, officials warn of deadly danger, particularly for the tens of thousands of children who remain with their parents in areas without gas and electricity supplies.

Algorithm of actions to evacuate the Donetsk region

The Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories published an action plan for those who are ready to move:

  • contact the hotlines of the Donetsk RMA/official chatbots with the appropriate request;
  • representatives of the state institution will appoint a time of departure, come to you to help collect your things and deliver them to specialized collection points;
  • you will be sent by train or bus to the western or central part of Ukraine;
  • volunteers will help your family with their internally displaced person status during relocation.;
  • You will be met at the terminus and immediately provided with state assistance and housing.

When is it possible to move and what should be taken with?

The first evacuation train arrived in Kropivnitsky on August 2. This means that you can apply for relocation assistance today.

Do not carry large items with you: electronics, furniture and decorative items. Remember, the most valuable thing you can take with you is life. Make sure your suitcase contains documents, credit cards, medicine, warm clothing and shoes, hygiene supplies, and food for the duration of your trip. If you are evacuating with your children, provide them with all of the above.

Today displaced persons can claim assistance from the state, international organizations and volunteers. Regarding the provision of basic necessities, food and clothing, do not hesitate to contact, in particular, charitable foundations. One of these is «Pryame vklyuchennya», whose volunteers help the military and civilians of Ukraine every day with a variety of issues.

Make your decision to evacuate now, while there is still an opportunity to safely move to the heating areas!
